The city of lights witnessed a whirlwind of fashion for one week from March 3 to March 11. This time, we have seen debutant designers from Paris Fashion Week embrace new changes and break the "house codes" of the fashion labels. Notably, Sarah Burton made her debut as the creative director of Givenchy, Haider Ackermann presented his inaugural collection for Tom Ford, and Julian Klausner unveiled his first show for Dries Van Noten.

Sarah Burton's Vision for Givenchy

Sarah Burton, formerly of Alexander McQueen, assumed the role of creative director at Givenchy in September 2024. Her debut collection was highly anticipated, as she aimed to honor the legacy of Hubert de Givenchy while infusing her design sensibilities. Drawing inspiration from Givenchy's inaugural 1952 collection, Burton emphasized graphic silhouettes and a stripped-back aesthetic, focusing on the interplay between dressmaking and tailoring. This approach highlighted her commitment to preserving the brand's heritage while introducing a modern perspective.

She stated, "I always think that to go forward, you have to go back to the beginning—to understand what the essence of the house is." which also reflects on her collection.

Haider Ackermann's Debut at Tom Ford

Haider Ackermann's first collection as the creative director of Tom Ford was met with enthusiasm, as he brought his distinctive touch to the brand. Ackermann's designs were characterized by futuristic volumes and a harmonious blend of opulence and restraint, reflecting his ability to reinterpret the brand's identity while maintaining its essence. Supermodel Kristen McMenamy leads the Tom Ford models on the runway at Haider Ackermann's debut for the brand at Paris Fashion Week.

Julian Klausner's Fresh Perspective at Dries Van Noten

Julian Klausner's inaugural show for Dries Van Noten at the Opéra Garnier introduced a refined yet rebellious take on the brand's legacy. His collection seamlessly blended traditional elements with contemporary flair, offering a fresh perspective that resonated with both critics and fashion enthusiasts.

As someone deeply passionate about fashion's evolving landscape, I find this season particularly inspiring. The fusion of tradition and modernity, sustainability and extravagance, and inclusivity with personal expression is exactly what the industry needs.
