Uff, last Saturday was crazy! I went and watched the first day, first show of Mission: Impossible—The Final Reckoning. The theatre was packed, obviously. I mean, who misses Tom Cruise pulling off deathly stunts? The energy was insane, people were cheering, whistling, even clapping at the end like it was a live performance!

I still remember the first time I saw Ethan Hunt hanging from that ceiling in the original Mission: Impossible. Back then, I was a kid who was awestruck by the suspense and the magnificent stunts performed by Cruise himself. Fast-forward nearly two decades, and here I am, watching Mission: Impossible—The Final Reckoning, the eighth and probably the final installment of this series, with same excitement and anticipation.

Watch the trailer here:

From the moment the film begins, it's evident that this is going to be a different kind of Mission: Impossible.

One particular scene that left me on the edge of my seat was Ethan's daring escape from a collapsing train and it was such an intense sequence that director Christopher McQuarrie mentioned someone nearly had a heart attack during a test screening. The action sequences are more breathtaking than ever in the final installment of Mission: Impossible.

When the story begins, Hunt is facing the Entity's growing threat two months after the events in Dead Reckoning Part One. The film delves into Hunt's character, showing him as a mythic figure burdened by past mistakes, adding emotional depth to the action-packed tale. Hunt, who has always been presented as a mysterious action hero, is seen in a new light by this analytical approach.

This wouldn’t be a proper Mission: Impossible without Ethan’s IMF crew that are tech savant Luther Stickell (Ving Rhames), field agent Benji Dunn (Simon Pegg), pickpocket Grace (Hayley Atwell), and French assassin Paris (Pom Klementieff) using their skills to help him get the job done. Ethan also needs all the assistance he can get because Gabriel (Esai Morales), the Entity's human ex-assistant, is out there trying to use the software for his evil purposes.

On Rotten Tomatoes, the film holds an 80% critic score and a 93% audience score, indicating a generally positive reception.

However, the film isn't without its flaws. Visually, this film is a masterpiece. I felt that the first hour was sluggish, with too much exposition and a slower pace. This thematic shift aimed to provide emotional depth to the story but overshadowed the core entertainment value that has made this series a fan favourite.

Even while there were some amazing action scenes, the story occasionally focused too much on praising Hunt's bravery, which might have lessened the thrilling aspect that was shown in previous performances.

As the credits rolled, I realised that this franchise has been a constant in my life, evolving with me over the years. The Final Reckoning isn't just a film; it's a farewell and a tribute to Ethan Hunt's missions.

I can proudly say Mission: Impossible–The Final Reckoning delivers a satisfying conclusion to my most loved series. It's a rollercoaster of emotions, action, and nostalgia that only a fan could fathom. And as a die-hard fan of this series, I couldn't have asked for a better ending.

Thank you, Ethan Hunt. It's been an incredible ride.
