The tragic murder of merchant navy officer Saurabh Rajput has taken a new turn with reports suggesting that his wife, Muskan Rastogi, who is currently in jail for his murder, is pregnant.
A day after a preliminary test confirmed that Muskan Rastogi, in custody on charges of murdering her husband, was pregnant, his brother expressed willingness to adopt the child should it prove to be his deceased brother's. "If the child is of my brother Saurabh, we will adopt and raise the child," said Bablu Rajput, speaking to reporters on Tuesday, as reported by IANS.
Muskan is currently in prison with her alleged lover, Sahil. They have been accused of murdering Saurabh Rajput, a former Merchant Navy officer, on March 4 at their home in the Indiranagar area of Meerut. Police allege that Saurabh was drugged and stabbed to death, and his remains were dismembered and concealed in a drum filled with cement.
Muskan's pregnancy was detected during a routine preliminary medical examination, disclosed Chief Medical Officer Dr. Ashok Kataria. Next, an ultrasound will be performed to confirm her pregnancy and estimate its duration.
Dr. Viresh Raj Sharma, Senior Jail Superintendent, stated that checking medical records of newly admitted female prisoners is always a standard procedure that includes pregnancy verification. While Muskan may have been informed by a female doctor, the jail administration is awaiting ultrasound confirmation before informing her officially.
According to prison sources, Muskan is currently occupied with sewing work inside jail while Sahil is engaged in agricultural work. They are both under rehabilitation through a drug de-addiction program.
