On Monday, Air Marshal AK Bharti, Director General of Air Operations, affirmed that the Indian military did not attack the nuclear plant in Pakistan's Kirana Hills. At a press conference on Monday, Bharti responded to a question by saying,
“Thank you for telling us that Kirana Hills houses some nuclear installation. We did not know about it. And we have not hit Kirana Hills, whatever is there.”
He made his comments amid rumors and social media discussions that India had used loitering and penetrating munitions to attack the Mushaf Airbase in Sargodha, which is said to be connected to underground nuclear storage beneath the Kirana Hills.
The Kirana Hills is a large rocky mountain range in the Sargodha district that has been designated by Pakistan's Ministry of Defense. Because of its brownish topography, the area is known locally as the "Black Mountains" and runs between the city of Sargodha and the township of Rabwah.
During recent military operations, AK Bharti also emphasized the readiness and effectiveness of Indian forces.
“Another highlight was the stellar performance of indigenous air defence weapons like the Akash system,” he said.
“All our military bases and systems continue to remain fully operational and ready to undertake any mission,” he added.
Air Marshal Bharti provided visual proof of significant damage to Pakistani air defense radars, airfields, and other military facilities during a joint press briefing on Sunday. Following Pakistan's attempt to target 26 Indian locations, including air force bases in Udhampur, Pathankot, and Adampur, on the evening of May 9–10, India launched retaliatory strikes.
Operation Sindoor was the code name for the Indian response, which was initiated on May 7 in retaliation for the terror attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, on April 22 that killed 26 people, the majority of whom were tourists.
The situation highlights how unstable the peace in the area is, even though India insists that its military operations were restricted to conventional targets. Disseminating false information can increase tensions and have unforeseen repercussions, particularly when it comes to nuclear facilities. To maintain regional stability, both countries must be cautious and give open communication top priority.
