As hospitals report a surge of patients with high fever, persistent cough, sore throat, and body aches, medical professionals are advising the public to take the appropriate precautions. Delhi Health Authorities are keeping a tight eye on the situation so that no casualties take place.
Dr. Rajeev Malhotra, a senior pulmonologist at a leading Delhi hospital, stated:
This year, we are witnessing an unusual spike in H1N1 cases. Many patients present with high fever, severe fatigue, and prolonged cough, making it difficult to distinguish between swine flu and COVID-19 without proper testing.
According to the survey, people over 50 with pre-existing conditions such as hypertension, diabetes, asthma, COPD, and cardiac issues and young children are more prone to be affected with this viral illness.
Experts commented that the current outbreak is the worst in years since, whereas previously the illness would last five to seven days, it is now lasting roughly ten days.
The Delhi government has also launched awareness campaigns to help people understand how to stay protected. Some of them include:
- Frequent handwashing with soap
- Wearing masks in crowded areas
- Avoiding unnecessary social gatherings
- Getting vaccinated against H1N1 influenza
Antiviral drugs are being stocked in hospitals, and specialised flu clinics have been established to handle the increasing number of patients. If someone has a prolonged fever or respiratory problems, authorities are advising them to get medical help right once.
