In a landmark victory, PM Narendra Modi's Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has won the Delhi Assembly elections, securing 48 out of 70 seats. This triumph ends the Aam Aadmi Party's (AAP) decade-long governance and marks the BJP's first majority in Delhi in 27 years.

The elections, held on February 5, 2025, witnessed a voter turnout of 60.54%. The BJP garnered 45.56% of the votes, while AAP received 43.57%. The Indian National Congress, once a dominant force, failed to secure any seats for the third consecutive time.

Prominent AAP leaders, including party convener Arvind Kejriwal and his deputy Manish Sisodia, lost their constituencies. Kejriwal, who had been at the helm since 2015, conceded defeat and congratulated the BJP on their victory.

Political pundits attribute the BJP's success to its focus on local issues such as water shortages, pollution, and infrastructure development. The party's manifesto promised welfare schemes targeting women, senior citizens, and underprivileged communities, including a monthly allowance of ₹2,500 for women and affordable meals at ₹5 in slum areas.

The AAP, known for its emphasis on education and healthcare, faced criticism over allegations of corruption and mismanagement. Despite introducing schemes like the Mahila Samman Yojana, which offered ₹2,100 monthly to women, the party couldn't overcome the anti-incumbency sentiment.

The Congress party's continued decline in Delhi is evident, as it not only failed to win any seats but also saw 67 out of its 70 candidates lose their election deposits. Their campaign, which included promises of universal health insurance up to ₹25 lakhs, failed to resonate with voters.

This victory is seen as a significant boost for the BJP, especially after not securing a majority in the 2024 national elections. It reflects public confidence in Modi's vision for progress and development. The party now faces the challenge of delivering on its promises and addressing the issues that concern Delhi's residents.
