The latest analysis of UK flight punctuality in 2025 reveals a concerning trend of significant delays, with several airlines consistently falling short of expectations. According to Civil Aviation Authority data, Air India recorded the longest average delay per departing flight, clocking in at an average of 36 minutes and 36 seconds. This analysis considered all scheduled and chartered departures from UK airports by airlines operating more than 2,500 flights in 2025, notably excluding cancelled flights.
Consumer watchdog Which? Travel editor, Rory Boland, slammed the "unacceptable" and "unreliable service" passengers continue to face, especially in the wake of rising airfares. Boland emphasized the critical need for airlines to enhance their support for travelers during delays, including clear communication about passenger rights and eligibility for compensation. He strongly encouraged affected passengers to claim compensation if they believe the airline was responsible for their delay.
Following Air India, Blue Islands and TAP Air Portugal also featured prominently on the list of worst offenders, with average delays of 25 minutes and 12 seconds, and 23 minutes respectively. Other notable airlines with significant delays include Saudia (21m 18s), Tui Airways (20m 24s), and SunExpress (20m 12s). Even major carriers like KLM, Air France, and Ryanair were found to have average delays exceeding 15 minutes. This data highlights a systemic issue within the airline industry impacting countless UK travelers.
