A 24-year-old man in Bengaluru confessed to killing his parents and sister, with the bodies exhumed and forensic tests ordered.
In Bengaluru's Vijayanagara district, a 24-year-old man, Akshay Kumar, was arrested on Friday after allegedly killing his parents and sister. Police say the bodies were exhumed earlier in the day as part of the investigation, and the crime is believed to have occurred on January 27. Akshay allegedly filed a missing persons report at Tilak Nagar police station on January 29, claiming his family had vanished. He later confessed on January 30 during interrogation, police said. The victims were identified as Bhimaraj, 48, his wife Jayalakshmi, 44, and their daughter Amrutha, 17. The family had traveled from Kotturu to Bengaluru for treatment at Jayadeva Hospital, carrying about ₹4 lakh in cash to hand over to a relative. Police said WhatsApp messages and photos from the hospital were part of the early timeline. Viscera samples were sent for forensic testing to determine the exact cause of death. The exhumation took place in the presence of Harapanahalli sub-divisional magistrate Suresh Kumar, according to the Vijayanagar police. Tilak Nagar police are continuing to investigate the circumstances, with the accused currently in custody. The case has prompted discussions about family disputes and the pressures that can lead to violence.
