DMK Walks Out! Udhayanidhi Slams CM Vijay Over "Diversionary Tactics" & Mining Cartel

Chennai witnessed high drama in the Tamil Nadu Assembly on Monday as the main opposition party, DMK, staged a walkout. Leader of Opposition Udhayanidhi Stalin vehemently accused Chief Minister Joseph C Vijay of employing "diversionary tactics" during his address, asserting that the CM failed to adequately respond to critical questions concerning the state's deteriorating law and order situation.

Stalin, speaking to reporters after the walkout, criticized CM Vijay's assembly speech as a "memorised cinema script." He claimed that instead of addressing the 15 specific questions he raised about recent daylight murders and the overall law and order scenario, the Chief Minister deliberately shifted focus. According to Stalin, CM Vijay deflected by bringing up decades-old issues like the Sarkaria Commission and MISA, and by reading out pending Enforcement Directorate charges against opposition leaders.

The DMK's boycott came after Speaker JCD Prabhakar reportedly denied them the opportunity to rebut what they termed "baseless" corruption allegations leveled by the Chief Minister.

CM Vijay had delivered a 45-minute reply during a debate on the police department's functioning, which prompted the heated exchange.

Adding to the gravity of his accusations, Udhayanidhi Stalin directly alleged state-sponsored monopolization in mining operations.

He claimed that individuals identified as Vishnu Reddy, his brother-in-law Sujay Reddy, and their business partner Anil Reddy have gained "full control of all government-run mining operations." Stalin vowed to release evidence for these claims "one by one." There has been no immediate response from the individuals named.

Further escalating his attack, Udhayanidhi labeled the Chief Minister a "dummy" whose ascent to power was an "accident." He also brought up an unresolved Income Tax case against CM Vijay for allegedly concealing ₹15 crore. The opposition leader also accused the ruling establishment of engaging in "open horse-trading," citing an alleged instance where an IUML MLA was offered cash and a cabinet portfolio.
