Nathaniel Zelinsky, Beatty's lawyer, outside the courthouse, accused the Trump administration of "courting a constitutional crisis for one man's vanity." He highlighted the severity of the board's defiance, suggesting a profound disregard for judicial authority.

Adding another layer of complexity, the Department of Justice (DOJ) has put forth a controversial argument. They claim that without the president's support, the Kennedy Center will "rapidly deteriorate" and could even face demolition. The DOJ views the president as the "sole hope" for its financial and structural survival, suggesting that stopping the renaming plan could jeopardize the venue's future.

Beatty's lawyers, however, have characterized this argument as a veiled threat, writing,
