LPG price surge: 19kg cylinder now ₹3,315, hits cafes and vendors

As of May 1, 2026, the 19kg commercial LPG cylinder has jumped to ₹3,315, up ₹994 from the previous ₹2,321. Telangana Civil Supplies Minister N. Uttam Kumar Reddy criticized the Centre, saying the hike would be a harsh blow to hotels, restaurants, cafes and streetside vendors who depend on affordable cooking gas.
Industry observers note the timing follows earlier rises—₹195.50 on April 1 and ₹114.50 on March 1—lifting the total increase over three months to about ₹1,303 and squeezing the budgets of small eateries and hawkers.
Separately, new LPG rules also take effect, including a ban on dual LPG-PNG ownership and extended cylinder booking intervals. Officials say the measures aim to improve efficiency and curb misuse, but critics warn they could create new hassles for households and small businesses already grappling with higher costs.
Uttam Kumar Reddy has urged the Centre to roll back the price increase, stressing that the hospitality sector and street vendors are among the hardest hit as India works to revive small-scale commerce.
