The Union Public Service Commission has expanded the restrictions on applying for the Civil Services Examination from 2026 onwards for candidates allotted the Indian Police Service or any other Central Services Group A. The notification for CSE 2026 also mandates face authentication at all examination venues and requires live photo capture during the form-filling process. It notes that UPSC is looking to fill about 933 vacancies this year, of which 33 are reserved for Persons with Benchmark Disability. The notification states that those already allotted IAS or IFS in past CSEs will remain subject to existing rules, while new conditions apply to those allotted IPS or other Group A services in CSE 2026. A key change is that such a candidate would be eligible for the 2027 CSE only if granted an exemption from training by the relevant authority, and this would be a one-time exemption allowing appearance in CSE-2027. If granted, the candidate would join the foundation course only. Resignation becomes a critical factor as the notice indicates that these candidates would not be allowed to appear in CSE-2028 or any subsequent CSE unless they resign from the service.
