Hyderabad's Ganesh Chaturthi Goes Grand: 72-Ft Eco-Ganesha & Diamond Idol Steal Show!

Hyderabad is once again setting the stage for an extraordinary Ganesh Chaturthi, with pandals across the city unveiling idols that are bigger, brighter, and more elaborate than ever before. From towering eco-friendly giants to sparkling diamond-studded deities, the city is a spectacle of devotion and artistry.

A major highlight is the iconic Khairatabad Ganesh, which stands majestically at 69 feet this year, marking its 72nd anniversary. This beloved idol, crafted from approximately 1,000 bags of natural clay brought from Rajasthan by 125 artisans over 90 days, is a magnet for devotees. What started as a one-foot idol in 1954 has grown into one of Hyderabad's biggest festival attractions, with organizers expecting a staggering 60 lakh visitors this year.

Taking the crown for the tallest Ganesh idol in the city this year is the 72-foot creation by the Tiranga Youth Association in Nagole. This impressive deity is a beacon of environmental consciousness, made entirely from clay, grass, bamboo, and jute, completely free of chemicals and Plaster of Paris (PoP). Organizers emphasize that this eco-friendly approach aligns with the belief that festive celebrations should also protect the environment.

Over in Balapur, the 18-foot Ganesh idol draws inspiration from the revered Puri Jagannath Temple.

Balapur is also synonymous with its famous laddu auction, a much-anticipated event where the value of the sweet treat skyrockets each year. This year's laddu weighs a substantial 21 kg and comes with a 2-kg silver plate.

The auction has seen bids soar, with a laddu fetching a record ₹35 lakh in a past year.

Due to increasing crowds, puja timings have been adjusted from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Adding a unique sparkle to the festivities, the Agarwal brothers at Leechee Pearls and Jewels in Begum Bazar have created a truly dazzling Ganesha. Their idol is adorned with an astounding 3.8 lakh American diamond stones and boasts 24-carat gold-plating, using around four to five grams of gold for its distinctive golden sheen.

This artistic creation, which took eight months to complete, is a fusion of devotion and their jewellery business.

Unlike most idols, this Ganesha will not be immersed; instead, it will be showcased in a procession on Nimajjanam day and then retained.

Hyderabad's Ganesh Chaturthi celebrations this year truly showcase a blend of tradition, innovation, and community spirit, offering devotees and visitors a diverse array of divine spectacles.
