Amaravati's new Quantum Valley aims to attract global talent and launch India's first integrated quantum ecosystem, with a 133-qubit centre and major partnerships.
Amaravati's capital region witnessed a historic milestone on a Saturday as the foundation for the Amaravati Quantum Valley (AQV) was laid in Uddandarayunipalem. Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu described the event as a game-changing moment not only for the state but for the country, predicting that the initiative would place India at the forefront of a global quantum revolution. The ceremony saw the foundation stone for the first integrated quantum valley ecosystem, to be developed across 50 acres as Quantum Valley Towers, with partners including IBM, TCS and L&T joining the effort.
In his speech, Naidu said the project represents more than new buildings; it signals the creation of a strong base of global talent that will drive the quantum transition over the coming decades. He pointed to the United Nations declaring 2025 as the International Year of Quantum Science and Technology, arguing that quantum technology will become a critical pillar as the world’s technological capabilities expand. He compared the potential impact to Hyderabad’s Hitec City in its transformative effect, suggesting Amaravati could become a global hub for quantum design, products and intellectual property.
Officials outlined a broad research spectrum for AQV, spanning defence, healthcare, energy, finance and climate modelling. The valley is planned as an ecosystem where ideas translate into practical products, with a focus on large-scale collaboration between industry, academia and government. The land pooling model used to build Amaravati, with farmers as key stakeholders in the capital’s development, was highlighted as a model for inclusive growth underpinning the project’s long-term viability.
Partnerships were reinforced by leaders including Union Minister Jitendra Singh and IT Minister Lokesh, who stressed that the ambitious project would also create thousands of high-quality, future-ready jobs for the youth. The state highlighted its collaboration with IBM, TCS and L&T to establish India’s first 133-qubit quantum computer centre, signaling a serious commitment to building a homegrown quantum ecosystem. Lokesh asserted that Amaravati would be among the world’s top quantum hubs, a bold promise that visionary investments in digital infrastructure and skilled manpower could make a reality. As officials framed it, the AQV is not merely a development project but a long-term strategy to position India at the heart of global quantum leadership.
