President Donald Trump recently honored a group of leading tech executives, including Elon Musk, Michael Dell, and Satya Nadella, with prestigious medals at a special science summit.
The White House hosted the "Science: A New Golden Age Summit," where Musk, the visionary behind SpaceX and Tesla, along with Google co-founder Sergey Brin, Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang, and Advanced Micro Devices CEO Lisa Su, were awarded the National Medal of Science. Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella and Dell Technologies founder Michael Dell received the National Medal of Technology and Innovation.
The administration expressed gratitude for these leaders' contributions, stating they are crucial in ensuring America's continued global leadership in innovation.
This summit followed a recent White House lunch focused on artificial intelligence, where President Trump discussed a "morally binding" document with tech leaders amid growing calls for caution in AI development.
However, the awards ceremony also brought to light the significant financial ties between the recipients and President Trump or Republican campaigns. Elon Musk, for instance, was a major financial supporter in the 2024 election cycle, contributing over $290 million.
Sergey Brin also contributed to the Republican National Committee, and Jensen Huang's Nvidia donated to Trump's inauguration ceremony.
Michael Dell is a long-standing Trump donor, and AMD has also contributed to Trump funds. It was also noted that President Trump had recently bought or sold shares in several of the companies led by the awardees, including SpaceX, Tesla, Nvidia, Microsoft, AMD, and Alphabet.
