Skydiver frees themselves mid-air from plane tail using hook knife
Australian skydiver escapes a terrifying mid-air snag when a reserve parachute catches the plane tail, freeing themselves with a hook knife before deploying the main parachute.
A dramatic in-flight incident unfolded when an Australian skydiver’s reserve parachute snagged on a plane’s tail during a formation jump, leaving them dangled thousands of feet above ground.
With seconds to spare, the jumper used a hook knife to free the line, then deployed the main parachute and landed safely. The aircraft suffered damage and issued a mayday call before continuing.
Experts say the escape highlights quick thinking and training, while underscoring the importance of strict equipment checks and crew coordination in midair stunts.
Investigations are underway to determine what caused the snag and to review safety protocols for future jumps.
