This is one action packed comic on steroids turned into a motion picture. This is seriously an A Rated!! movie.. kids reading this Blog and those adults who haven't grown up.. don't watch this movie or even read this post. This is Kill Bill, Departed, Hannibal, Dick Tracy, Pulp Fiction, Grind House etc. all together and much more.
There are three hero's in this three story movie which are very remotely connected.. just like pulp fiction (bet you still haven't figured it out and neither have I). Bruce Willis (Hartigan).. the tough good cop with a bad heart condition trying to save the poor Nancy (Jessica Alba), Mickey Rourke (Marv.. in his best role ever.. just loved him) is the super tough guy somewhat like the Fantastic Four's Ben (rock covered guy) whose after a sneaky serial killer Kevin (Elijah Woods from Lord of the Ring's fame), and Clive Oven ( as Dwight McCarthy) is a cop trying to save the hooker community.
The Characterization of the cast is mind blowing, full credits to the director of photography for the visual appeal which is a mix of B&W & Technicolor.. which is simply amazing. The script is full of macho dialogs and cheeky one-liners which are really cool and fit in well. The babe casting comprises of Jessical Alba, Brittney Murphy, Devon Akoi (The Chink Samurai Sword Babe), Alexis Beldel, Jaime King, Rosario Dawson is not as impressive as the movie itself but makes up with their performance.
I'm not sure which year is it in the movie but its a good blend on old and new gangster era's. There are few scenes which might leave you shell shocked for a day.. but I guess its what you would be expecting. There's one scene where where Bruce Willis horrifically takes down Nick Sthal (Yellow Bastard) in the end... try avoiding it.
Mickey Rourke (in picture with his sexy parole officer) is uber cool in his super macho avatar. The Director's Frank Miller & Robert Rodriguez and Quentin Tarantino (as Guest Director) have marvelously crafted this piece of art. The movie has had 28 nominations and won 16 awards without any Oscars.
