Brothers Ash and Pooya Koosha, who were born in Iran and left in 2009, are the creative minds behind the project. They used a sophisticated suite of tools including Kling AI for video generation, Anthropic’s Claude for script editing, and Google’s Gemini for research. By leveraging these technologies, they managed to produce the entire film in just three months with a remarkably low budget of $2,000.
The story follows five strangers hiding in a dead-end alley while Iranian government forces execute wounded protesters. A child in a wheelchair, Amir, watches the chaos from a window and decides to take action. Although every image and person in the film is AI-generated, the narrative is grounded in real journalistic reports and eyewitness accounts of the massacre of Iranian civilians by government forces.
While the film looks remarkably like a low-budget independent production, it has sparked a conversation about the ethics of using AI to depict real-life tragedies. Director Ash Koosha admitted he would have preferred to work with a human crew and actors, but noted the efficiency and accessibility AI provided.
