No Modi–Trump Call Between April and June, Says Jaishankar
S. Jaishankar tells Parliament there was no PM‑Trump call between April 22 and June 17. He rejects US mediation and trade‑link claims in ceasefire with Pakistan.
S Jaishankar, the minister of external affairs, told the Lok Sabha on Monday that there was never any connection between trade and the US-India talks during the war with Pakistan. He rejected President Donald Trump's repeated assertions that he used trade to prevent the two sides from fighting. On the Lok Sabha floor, Jaishankar claimed that between April 22 (the Pahalgam terror attack) and June 17 (more than a month after the India-Pakistan ceasefire was declared), there was not a single phone conversation between Donald Trump and Prime Minister Modi.
Jaishankar provided insight into India's conversations with the United States during Operation Sindoor, stating that US Vice President JD Vance had called Prime Minister Modi to warn him of a massive attack from Pakistan. Modi responded by saying that India would retaliate even more forcefully. Jaishankar went on to say that India had successfully repelled Pakistan's repeated attacks on May 9 and 10.
On May 10, he said, several nations reached out to India to inform New Delhi that Pakistan was prepared for a ceasefire.
"India made it clear to all countries that it would only consider ceasefire talks from Pakistan if they came through the Director General of Military Operations (DGMO) channel," the External Affairs Minister said.
Union Home Minister Amit Shah intervened as the opposition began to protest Jaishankar's claim that trade was not discussed during the US-India talks during Operation Sindoor. He claimed that the opposition was quick to fire their foreign minister, "But they have faith in some other country."
"I have an objection that they (Opposition) don't have faith in an Indian Foreign Minister I can understand the importance of foreign in their party. But this doesn't mean that all the things of their party should be imposed here in the House. This is the reason why they are sitting there (opposition benches), and will remain sitting there for the next 20 years," Amit Shah said.
Jaishankar's speech followed statements made earlier in the day by Rajnath Singh, the defense minister, who claimed that the Indian military had successfully stopped all Pakistani attacks and had destroyed important terrorist sites and military facilities.
