Tragedy in South Delhi: Multi-Storey Building Collapses Near Saket Metro

A tragic incident occurred in South Delhi’s Saidulajab area on Saturday evening when a multi-storey building collapsed, leaving at least four people dead and several others feared trapped under the rubble. The building, located near the Saket Metro Station on Western Marg, came crashing down around 7:45 PM, sparking immediate panic among local residents.

Reports indicate that the building was partly under construction, with additional floors being added to the existing structure. At the time of the collapse, a coaching institute was reportedly operating on the ground floor, while the upper floors were still being built. The structure collapsed onto an adjacent tin-shed canteen where several children were having dinner, leading to fears that young lives may be caught in the debris.

Witnesses described the moment of the collapse as sounding like a massive “generator blast,” followed by a thick cloud of dust that blanketed the entire neighborhood. Local residents were the first to respond, heroically rescuing three people before emergency services arrived. Currently, teams from the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), Delhi Fire Services, and local police are working tirelessly to clear the mounds of concrete and locate survivors.

Chief Minister Rekha Gupta has expressed deep concern over the incident, stating that every possible effort is being made to rescue those still trapped. While at least eight people have been successfully pulled from the wreckage so far, the search continues for others who remain missing. The situation remains critical as rescue personnel navigate the unstable debris in a race against time.
