Defence Minister Rajnath Singh has publicly praised the Indian armed forces for showing restraint during Operation Sindoor, while stressing that the forces retain the capability for a stronger response if required. Speaking to reporters, he noted that the operation achieved its aims thanks to careful coordination between security units, civilian administration, and border residents, underscoring the importance of trust and information flowing across the line of control in sensitive border areas. He framed the success as not just a military achievement but also a demonstration of how disciplined action combined with local partnerships can deter threats without escalating tensions.
Rajnath stressed that improved border connectivity is central to this approach. He said better roads, communication networks, and border outposts enable security personnel to respond swiftly and effectively, while also boosting local economies. This connectivity, he argued, creates a chain of security that makes life safer for people living near the frontiers and supports economic growth through easier movement of goods and people.
The remarks come as the government highlighted a major push in frontier infrastructure, including the inauguration of multiple BRO projects valued at around ₹5,000 crore. Officials said this was the highest single-day tranche of BRO works announced, reflecting New Delhi's emphasis on strengthening logistics and surveillance along the longer and more distant borders. Analysts say this signals a shift toward a connectivity-first security strategy that pairs military readiness with development.
While Op Sindoor remains a military operation, the defence minister’s comments indicate a preference for restraint and calibrated action. He referenced statements that the armed forces could have acted more aggressively but chose measured steps, arguing that a stable border ecosystem yields better outcomes for both national security and the livelihoods of border communities.
