Sensex, Nifty Jump as US Tariff Ruling Lifts Investor Sentiment
Indian benchmarks rise on buoyant sentiment after a US ruling against reciprocal tariffs, lifting Sensex and Nifty and boosting investor wealth.
Indian equity benchmarks staged a solid recovery on Monday after a sharp dip in the previous session, buoyed by a US Supreme Court ruling against reciprocal tariff policies. The 30-share BSE Sensex jumped 479.95 points, or 0.58%, to close at 83,294.66, while the NSE Nifty 50 settled at 25,713, up 141.75 points or 0.55%. The index opened at 82,906.83 and touched an intraday high of 83,486.15 before paring some gains.
Investor wealth surged as a broad rally pushed the market capitalisation higher by Rs 1.92 lakh crore to Rs 469.03 lakh crore. Buying interest in heavyweights such as HDFC Bank, Kotak Mahindra Bank, Bharti Airtel, Axis Bank, State Bank of India, Larsen & Toubro, and Reliance Industries helped lift the benchmarks higher.
On the stock-specific front, Morepen Laboratories, Blue Jet Healthcare, Neuland Laboratories, Awfis Space Solutions, and Tega Industries emerged as the top gainers, rising up to 15.42%. Conversely, the session saw declines in IDFC First Bank, UPL, Godfrey Phillips India, 63 Moons Technologies, and Vesuvius India, with losses reaching as high as mid-teens percent. The broader picture remained mixed, with the Nifty Midcap 100 falling 0.43% while the Nifty Smallcap 100 edged up 0.29%.
Analysts noted that the upbeat tone was driven by improved risk appetite following the tariff-policy development and ongoing domestic earnings visibility, even as investors awaited further cues from global markets.
