Netflix Debuts Posthumous Eric Dane Interview After ALS Battle

Netflix has released a posthumous interview with Eric Dane, conducted for the series Famous Last Words. The actor, known for Grey’s Anatomy and Euphoria, died at 53 less than a year after sharing his ALS diagnosis. In the conversation, Dane spoke candidly about his beliefs, saying he did not think there is an afterlife, and that when the lights go out, it’s over. He also expressed a quiet hope that his two daughters, Billie and Georgia, would remember the moments he shared with them, whether at beach volleyball games or dance recitals, and he recalled how he’d watched The Nutcracker many times, joking that the performance could feel endless at times.

The show’s premise is that guests speak honestly as they near the end of life, with executive producer Brad Falchuk noting that the guest must feel safe to say whatever they want and know they’re leaving something meaningful behind. Dane’s episode is the second installment, following a first featuring primatologist and conservationist Jane Goodall, who is said to have died last October in the account surrounding the program. Falchuk explains that the production was deliberately intimate: very few people were on set, and even the camera operators remained in a separate room so the guest could speak freely. The series originated in Denmark and is designed to be released only after a guest’s death, a format intended to give viewers a candid, final look at a public figure’s reflections. Dane’s interview is described as part of that ongoing project, with plans for more conversations already in the works.
