The AI Impact Summit in Delhi has been billed as a turning point for India's leadership in artificial intelligence, drawing $250 billion in commitments for AI infrastructure and attracting more than 5 lakh visitors. The sprawling Bharat Mandapam venue hosted over 500 sessions and 400 exhibitors, with the expo portion set to stay open through Saturday, giving participants a final chance to explore new tools and collaborations.
A centerpiece of the event is the Delhi Declaration, a pact that more than 70 countries have signed or signaled readiness to sign. IT Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw said the final Delhi Declaration would be unveiled on Saturday, with indications that both the United States and China have signed. He framed the accord as a broad, future-facing framework for AI development that emphasizes large language models, common compute resources, and safety protocols, aiming to accelerate responsible innovation on a global scale.
In a related development, India announced it would join the U.S.-led Pax Silica coalition, signaling stronger international coordination on AI governance. Vaishnaw noted that the tally of signatories may grow as delegations finalize their positions, stressing that major countries are already on board. The tone from officials has been cautiously optimistic about turning high-level commitments into real-world projects that advance AI for growth and societal benefit.
Despite early signs of oversubscription, organizers reported the summit gradually settled into a workable pace, with policymakers, industry leaders, and researchers sharing pathways for collaboration. Prime Minister Modi and regional leaders used the sidelines to review Indo-Lanka ties within the broader context of technology partnerships. The event’s emphasis on collaboration, governance, and scalable AI solutions reflects a concerted push to position India at the forefront of the global AI era.
