An afternoon crash on Kanpur's VIP Road sent shockwaves through the Gwaltoli area Sunday, when a supercar plowed into a parked auto-rickshaw and a motorcycle. The incident, near Rev-3 Mall, left several pedestrians injured as witnesses described a loud screech and shattered glass.
Police say Shivam Mishra, the son of a local businessman, was behind the wheel when the car sped away. But his lawyer countered that Shivam was not driving at the time and that the car was operated by a hired driver. The family has asserted Shivam experienced a seizure while driving, a claim police say needs further verification.
Eyewitness accounts and official statements indicate the driver appeared to be in an inebriated state, prompting police to initiate a medical examination to determine if a medical condition influenced the crash. Investigators also plan to scrutinize how the driver’s licence was obtained and whether any Regional Transport Office staff played a part in the licensing process.
Separately, the other side of the story highlights a different dimension: the car involved is a Lamborghini Revuelto, valued at about Rs 10 crore, a rare model launched in 2023. The vehicle has the power to push well over 1,000 horsepower and is considered one of the marquee luxury cars in India. The car was seized by authorities as part of the investigation, and no arrests have been reported so far.
Authorities say the case will proceed with a formal chargesheet after medical checks and a legal review. If tests show Shivam Mishra was medically unfit to drive, investigators will re-examine how he obtained a licence, and the role of the car’s ownership in the incident will come under closer scrutiny.
