Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, launched a scathing attack on Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday, accusing the government of systematically destroying India’s education system. His remarks came in the wake of reports concerning technical glitches that delayed the Common University Entrance Test (CUET)-Undergraduate 2026 at several centers across the country. Gandhi argued that while the government makes lofty claims of being a 'Vishwaguru,' it has failed to conduct even a single national-level examination with complete integrity.
Taking to social media, the Congress leader highlighted a string of recent controversies involving major exams, including NEET, CBSE, and SSC. He pointed out that these issues have affected approximately one crore students. Gandhi warned that the generation whose future is being ruined by these repeated failures would eventually hold the government to account. 'Four examinations. One crore students. Not a single one could be conducted honestly,' Gandhi stated, questioning how a government that cannot manage an exam can claim global leadership.
Adding to the pressure, Congress communications chief Jairam Ramesh intensified the party's demand for accountability. Ramesh cited investigations into the On-Screen Marking (OSM) system for Class 12 Board examinations and called for the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan. He questioned the preparedness of the CBSE in implementing new systems and posed several questions to the government regarding the transparency of the process.
Meanwhile, the National Testing Agency (NTA) addressed the CUET-UG delays, noting that the technical issues had been resolved. To ensure that no candidate was disadvantaged, the agency confirmed that the exam was conducted with compensatory time for those affected. This follows recent submissions to the Supreme Court where the Centre stated that Prime Minister Modi is personally monitoring the situation surrounding the NEET-UG paper leak allegations. As the government gears up for re-tests and security reforms, the political battle over the future of India's youth continues to intensify.
