Netflix confirms One Piece season 3, adapting the Alabasta arc and bringing the Straw Hats back in 2027. A shorter gap from season 2 raises expectations for bigger stakes and a faithful, action-packed voyage.
The Straw Hats' Log Pose seems to be working perfectly well as Netflix's One Piece has charted a course to return to streaming with its third season much sooner than anticipated. Season 3 of One Piece will presumably come out in 2027, as Netflix announced on Tuesday. It is significantly shorter than the gap between the first two seasons, which were aired in 2023 and 2026.
The Battle for Alabasta will be the name of the live-action season 3 of the show One Piece. At the end of the second season, Luffy and his crew set sail for the Egyptian-inspired Alabasta Kingdom, after vowing to help their newfound friend and nakama, Princess Vivi, to save her land and defeat the evil Mr. Crocodile and his Baroque Works group. Season 3 will be, therefore, an adaptation of the Alabasta Arc of the manga, the first time One Piece explored a larger stakes form of story, as the destiny of a whole kingdom lies upon the jiggly shoulders of Luffy.
The season 2 cast, comprising not only of the Straw Hats but also of their new friends and enemies, also returns, with Charithra Chandran as Princess Vivi, Mikaela Hoover as Tony Tony Chopper, Joe Manganiello as Mr. 0, Lera Abava as Miss All Sunday, and Sendhil Ramamurthy as Alabasta King Nefertari Cobra. They will be accompanied by Cobra Kai star Xolo Maridueña, playing the brother of Luffy Portgas D. Ace and Cole Estola (Oh, Mary) as the heart of gold assassin with a flamboyant appearance, Bon Clay.
Considering the time it took for season 2 to be produced, it's a pleasant surprise that Netflix's One Piece will already be coming back in 2027. A quicker season turnaround may however, become a trend in the future. The One Piece manga is approaching the 1,200th chapter, and the anime is approaching the same number in terms of episodes. Assuming that Netflix actually has the desire to make the Eiichiro Oda epic tale into a complete series, it is not possible to wait nearly three years before a new season-long series comes out, unless they intend to replace Iñaki Godoy as Luffy with his grandfather, Garp.
