Rahul Gandhi traveled to Delhi to meet Uttarakarnad’s gym owner Mohammad Deepak, who rose to attention after confronting Bajrang Dal activists harassing a Muslim shopkeeper. The meeting, described as a moment of unity, took place at the 10, Janpath residence of Sonia Gandhi, with Congress leader Vaibhav Walia, Deepak Kumar, his friend Vijay Rawat, and several others in attendance.
During the discussions, Gandhi praised Deepak's courage and told him he would visit Kotdwar to take a gym membership, a gesture the owner said was both surprising and meaningful. Gandhi also spoke with Deepak's wife over the phone, reiterating that every human being is equal and emphasizing Indian values of mohabbat and inclusivity.
Vaibhav Walia, who had walked with Gandhi during the Bharat Jodo Yatra, said Deepak had carried forward the message of opening 'Mohabbat Ki Dukaan' across the country. The group noted that Deepak had stood up for humanity and that such stories should inspire Indian youth.
Earlier this year, on January 26, Bajrang Dal activists protested outside the Baba clothing store in Kotdwar, pressuring its 70-year-old owner, Vakil Ahmed, to change the shop’s name. The episode highlighted ongoing tensions, which Gandhi's meeting aimed to counter with a message of unity and love.
