Tirunelveli Seizures: ₹13.58 Lakh Unaccounted Cash, Goods Seized Ahead of Elections
Ahead of polls, Tirunelveli reports ₹13.58 lakh seized in cash and articles, with nine flying and nine static squads patrolling five constituencies as checks tighten.
Static and flying squads have been deployed in Tirunelveli district ahead of the April 23 Assembly elections. Nine flying squads and nine static squads are patrolling five constituencies — Tirunelveli, Ambasamudram, Palayamkottai, Nanguneri and Radhapuram — and working in 8-hour shifts to curb unaccounted cash and articles since the election model code of conduct came into force last Sunday. They have so far seized ₹13.58 lakh-worth articles and unaccounted cash, including ₹7.91 lakh in cash and ₹5.67 lakh-worth articles transported without proper documents, according to the District Collector. The teams check vehicles with police protection and have been conducting random surprise checks that led to seizures of liquor bottles and banned narcotic substances valued at ₹76,203.
