Rita Ora explains freezing her eggs in her 20s amid family health concerns
Rita Ora opens up about why she froze eggs early, citing medical guidance and her mother's cancer history, with Davina McCall nudging her toward motherhood.
Rita Ora has shared why she chose to freeze her eggs in her twenties, saying a doctor advised it to preserve quality and give herself options for the future. She underwent two rounds of egg freezing at 24 and 27, a decision she says made sense as she watched friends navigate similar choices while building their lives. Now in her mid-thirties, Ora notes that many of her peers are weighing fertility options, and she sees egg preservation as a way to expand possibilities when the time comes.
The singer discussed the topic with Women's Health UK, revealing that her friend Davina McCall nudges her to consider starting a family sooner. "Davina is always like, ‘Hurry up – you can do it,’" Ora joked, highlighting the supportive role McCall has played in her conversations about family and timing.
A major factor in Ora’s decision, she says, is her mother Vera’s health history. Vera was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2005 when Ora was 13, an experience Ora has previously described as traumatic and formative, contributing to PTSD and health anxiety. The early menopause Ora observed in her mother’s cancer treatment further informed her choice to get ahead of potential fertility hurdles and menopause, shaping how she approaches her thirties and future family plans.
Ora and Taika Waititi married in 2022, and she emphasizes shared values with her partner, including the importance of family and the resilience learned from their mothers. She describes a sense of common ground that centers on family, hard work, and the belief that motherhood remains a meaningful goal for the future, even as they navigate busy careers and evolving personal timelines.
