Callaway Drops Good Good After Sexist Video Outcry & Donates $1M!
Golf giant Callaway cuts ties with Good Good over a controversial video making light of violence against women. Discover the full story behind the $1M donation and corporate accountability.
Golf giant Callaway has swiftly terminated its partnership with content creator Good Good, effective immediately, following a significant outcry over a controversial video. The decision comes after an advert, created and published by Good Good for Callaway last week, depicted a woman being aggressively pushed to the ground, an act widely condemned as trivializing violence against women.
The controversial clip, which featured Good Good co-founder Garrett Clark pushing professional golfer Alexis Miestowski while shouting "Do not touch my new driver," sparked widespread criticism across social media and the golf community.
Both Callaway and Good Good quickly removed the offending advert and issued apologies as the backlash mounted.
Good Good, known for its popular YouTube channel boasting over 2.13 million subscribers, had been a Callaway partner since 2023.
In a powerful statement released on X, Callaway acknowledged its internal content review process "was not comprehensive enough" and expressed deep reflection on the "hurt and disappointment caused by the video we reposted." The company emphasized its commitment to corporate responsibility by announcing a substantial donation of $1 million to organizations dedicated to preventing violence against women and supporting victims.
Callaway’s statement further highlighted the impact of personal testimonies:
We heard from individuals who shared personal experiences related to violence against women, and their stories were powerful reminders that this issue touches the lives of far too many people.
The manufacturer unequivocally declared, "Unequivocally, violence against women is unacceptable and should never be trivialised, normalised, or used as entertainment." They confirmed that "appropriate internal corrective actions" are being taken to prevent future occurrences.
The repercussions extend beyond Callaway's decision. Good Good has also announced its withdrawal as a title sponsor for a PGA Tour event scheduled to take place in Austin, Texas, in November. This widespread fallout underscores the increasing scrutiny on brand partnerships and content creation, especially concerning sensitive social issues.
The incident serves as a stark reminder for brands and content creators alike about the critical importance of ethical content review and social responsibility in their messaging.
