SIT to Probe Confident Group Chairman CJ Roy Death in Bengaluru
A SIT has been formed to investigate the death of real estate tycoon CJ Roy, found with a gunshot wound as IT raids unfolded at his Bengaluru office.
BENGALURU: A special investigation team has been formed for a comprehensive and meticulous probe into the death of 57-year-old CJ Roy, founder of Confident Group and the honorary consul of the Slovak Republic. Roy was found dead at his Langford Road office on Friday amid Income Tax Department searches linked to his company. Officials said he died from a gunshot wound fired with a licensed weapon. An ambulance was summoned, but he was pronounced dead on arrival at a hospital.
TA Joseph, managing director of Confident Group, told police Roy had gone to the Langford Road office to provide a statement to tax officials. He reportedly entered his cabin, locked the door, saying he needed to speak with his mother. When staff forced entry, they found him unresponsive with a gunshot wound.
The SIT will be led by C. Vamshi Krishna, joint commissioner of police, West Zone, with Lokesh Jagalasar, deputy commissioner of police, South Division, designated as the investigating officer. Roy’s family has alleged that the Income Tax department’s actions placed immense pressure on him, noting that raids occurred in December 2025 and again on January 29, with Roy asked to be present the following day. His brother, Babu Roy, stated Roy had been under severe pressure for days but reportedly had no debts or financial issues.
Authorities have not ruled out any angle as the investigation proceeds. The SIT described its task as meticulous and comprehensive, aiming to clarify the sequence of events surrounding Roy’s death and the role of the ongoing tax proceedings. Roy, who with Confident Group built a large real estate presence and enjoyed a substantial public following, also served as an ambassadorial figure in Bengaluru, with his last public activity on Republic Day noted by family and followers. Investigations continue as police gather statements, review records, and piece together the final hours before Roy’s death.
