Mourners laid flowers at Borisovskoye cemetery as she spoke, recalling her son's outspoken anti-corruption campaigns and his long fight against authorities.
International allies have weighed in, with a joint statement from leaders in the UK and several European nations asserting that Navalny was killed by a poison developed from epibatidine, a toxin derived from dart frogs. They argued that only the Russian state had the means, motive, and opportunity to deploy such a toxin. Russia rejected the accusations, with Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov describing the charges as biased and unfounded and said Moscow resolutely rejects them.
Navalny's widow, Yulia, marked the two-year anniversary with a social-media post declaring that truth has been uncovered and justice will come one day. She had previously claimed that analyses of smuggled samples from laboratories in two countries showed her husband had been murdered and urged those labs to publish their results.
