Amy Hunt Claims Bronze in Thrilling Diamond League 200m Final!

British sprinter Amy Hunt delivered a season's best performance, securing a third-place finish in the Diamond League women's 200m final. However, her impressive run wasn't enough to overcome the blistering pace set by Olympic 100m champion Julien Alfred, who clinched victory. Kyla White of the US took second place.

Despite being nearly half a second behind Alfred, Hunt viewed her bronze medal performance, achieved in 22.16 seconds on a chilly Brussels night, as one of the best races of her career. The conditions were challenging, cold, damp, and late in the evening, making her achievement even more notable.

Hunt reflected on her progress, stating,

I've shown the last few 200s, I'm getting a lot stronger, and I think I was probably one of the closest athletes up to my personal best tonight.

She added that considering the "very freezing cold night in northern Europe, in September, at 10pm, I think that's probably one of the best 200s I've ever done." This comes after a successful month where she earned four European gold medals in Birmingham. The race saw Hunt make a strong start, keeping pace with Alfred around the bend.

However, the St Lucian powerhouse, who famously won 100m gold at the Paris Olympics, then accelerated, pulling away for a dominant win in 21.79 seconds. Hunt acknowledged Alfred's incredible speed, saying,

That was the closest I've ever been to Julien on the bend, and I thought: 'Oh my gosh, if I had completely fresh legs, I could really take you on right now.'

She expressed immense respect for Alfred, describing her as an "incredible athlete" who is both "fierce, but also kind." Hunt sees great optimism in having executed "probably the best first half of the race I've ever put together." This performance offers promising signs for Hunt's future, showcasing her strength and potential to challenge the world's elite sprinters even further.
