Presley Gerber, the son of supermodel Cindy Crawford and businessman Rande Gerber, has tragically died at the age of 27. His death, which occurred on Sunday at a rehabilitation facility, is being investigated by Santa Monica police as a suspected overdose. The exact cause has not yet been determined, but authorities have stated there is no indication of foul play.
Following the devastating news, a representative for Crawford and Rande Gerber released a statement asking for privacy during what they described as a "very difficult and painful time" for the family. The Los Angeles County Medical Examiner records confirm his passing.
Like his famous mother and younger sister Kaia, Presley Gerber had carved out a career in modeling. He made his runway debut at just 16 for Italian label Moschino and went on to work with prominent brands such as Burberry, Dolce & Gabbana, and Bottega Veneta.
In recent years, Gerber had openly addressed his personal challenges, including struggles with mental health and drug use. In a 2023 interview on the Studio 22 podcast, he shared his desire to help others facing similar battles, saying,
Having struggled with mental health, depression and some other things that come along with that, I think that whether I help one person or a hundred people get out of that place that I was in at one point in my life, that's all I need to do.
His sister, Kaia Gerber, also spoke candidly about her brother's addiction struggles in a recent issue of American Vogue. She reflected on how such an experience affects a family, noting, "When something like that happens in a family, it kind of levels everyone." She added that Presley had become a "teacher" by choosing to be "very human for everyone" and acknowledging that some things cannot be hidden from the world.
Gerber often spoke of his close relationship with his family.
He appeared alongside his sister Kaia in a Calvin Klein campaign in 2018 and even had her name tattooed on his arm. He told People Magazine at the time that their close bond made traveling for work "a lot less lonely." In another memorable appearance, he starred with his mother in Pepsi's 2018 Super Bowl commercial, following in her footsteps from her iconic 1992 ad.
Cindy Crawford herself posted two childhood photos of him on Instagram to celebrate his 27th birthday in July, expressing her pride and love for her son.
