Rohit Pawar seeks a criminal FIR over the Ajit Pawar plane crash, alleging safety lapses and urging Baramati and Mumbai authorities to act.
Amid heightened drama on February 25, 2026, Rohit Pawar, an NCP MLA and nephew of Sharad Pawar, filed a complaint seeking criminal action against VSR Ventures and its directors, responsible officials of DGCA, the state government, and unknown accused in connection with the death of his uncle Ajit Pawar in a plane crash near Baramati. In the filing, he lists offences including death by negligence, cheating, criminal breach of trust, falsification of records, endangerment of life and conspiracy, and raises concerns about safety compliance at Arrow Aircraft Sales and Charters Pvt Limited. He also notes that the DGCA has admitted non-compliance by VSR Ventures.
At Marine Drive police station in Mumbai, Pawar confronted a senior officer and stressed his right to register an FIR. He contends the police refused, and says he will travel to Baramati the next day to pursue an FIR there as well.
He argues that the police conduct has intensified suspicions about Dada’s death and says he will press for FIR registration in Baramati. The Maharashtra CID is said to be probing the case under an existing FIR, and a Marine Drive police statement has reiterated that the matter is being investigated under that framework.
The crash that claimed Ajit Pawar’s life, along with four others, has become a focal point for questions about aviation safety and accountability in the state, with political leaders and families seeking clarity on how safety and regulatory gaps are being addressed.
