Telangana's Civil Supplies Department announced a shift to an 'over-supply' strategy aimed at eliminating panic among residents. Daily statewide diesel distribution has jumped by 190% to 21,295 kilolitres, while petrol distribution rose by 118% to 12,875 kilolitres. By comparison, the usual averages are 7,348 KL for diesel and 5,883 KL for petrol. The surge followed days of long queues as people sought fuel, though officials say the situation has begun easing since Wednesday.
Officials insist the approach is about ensuring stable availability and preventing price spikes, not about stockpiling wastefully. The higher volumes are intended to keep fuel flowing through government channels, reducing uncertainty for motorists and essential services alike. The rapid ramp-up comes amid a peak in demand and public concern over reliability of supplies.
Analysts say the strategy could serve as a model for other states grappling with panic buying, but caution is warranted regarding inventory costs and the need for vigilant monitoring to prevent misallocation. Residents report shorter lines in some areas, while station staff note that distribution is becoming more even, though pockets of delay persist.
With the policy in place, Telangana authorities say they will continue monitoring stock levels, distribution networks, and feedback from consumers, keeping mobility and essential services in focus.
