Uber to Offer Blade Helicopter Rides in 2026 via Joby Partnership
Uber teams with Joby Aviation to bring Blade helicopter rides to its app, aiming for a 2026 rollout. The deal marks a bold shift toward urban air mobility with quiet, zero-emission aircraft.
Uber is taking on helicopters, a novel mode of ride sharing. Through its collaboration with Joby Aviation, an electric air taxi manufacturer, the ride-hailing service announced on Wednesday that it will begin offering Blade helicopter rides on its app as early as 2026.

The announcement follows Joby's $125 million acquisition of Blade, a helicopter and air transportation company, in August. The company's medical organ transplant division was not included in the agreement. According to Blade, it chartered at least 50,000 passengers from 12 urban terminals in the previous year.

“Integrating Blade into the Uber app is the natural next step in our global partnership with Uber and will lay the foundation for the introduction of our quiet, zero-emissions aircraft in the years ahead,” said Joby founder and CEO JoeBen Bevirt in a press release.
Air travel has long been a goal of Uber's platform. In 2019, the business initially declared its collaboration with Joby. In 2020, Joby purchased Uber's Elevate flying taxi business.
According to Andrew Macdonald, president and operating chief of Uber, the collaboration will help consumers embrace the "next generation of travel" and strengthen the company's enduring faith in air travel. The business promised to provide more information about ride reservations closer to launch.

Joby has been competing with rivals to introduce air taxi solutions to the market for years. Although the technology's proponents claim it can reduce emissions and traffic congestion, businesses are still fighting for the Federal Aviation Administration's regulatory approval.
I can wait to see how it will turn over....are you excited? Let me know in the comments section.
