A 26-year-old software professional from Andhra Pradesh drowns in Missouri's Meramec River during a birthday outing; his family and village are left in shock.
SULLIVAN, MO — A 26-year-old software professional from Andhra Pradesh drowned in the Meramec River during a birthday outing with friends at Meramec State Park near Sullivan. Singireddy Sai Sree Hari Krishna, from Piridi in Bobbili mandal of Vizianagaram district, entered the river for a swim and was pulled down by underwater weeds. He did not surface, and emergency crews later recovered his body.\n\nHari Krishna moved to the US in 2023 after completing his BTech, pursued a master's in engineering, and had started working at Elessent Clean Technologies in St Louis, about 130km from Sullivan.\n\nHe was the youngest of three siblings and is survived by two married sisters and his parents — Srinivasa Rao, an auto-rickshaw driver, and Ramadevi, a health centre employee. Family members described his plans to help them acquire land back home.\n\nResidents in Piridi expressed shock, and relatives have approached authorities seeking repatriation of Hari Krishna's body from the US.\n\nThe tragedy comes as the second AP youth to drown in the US within two months; Rupak Reddy Padini, 25, from Ichchapuram in Srikakulam district, drowned in Lake George, New York, while vacationing with friends.\n\nThe family and community are seeking support and prayers as investigators review the circumstances of the incident.
