Tragedy in Manipur: Woman Killed, Family Injured in Village Attack

A wave of shock has gripped Manipur after a Kuki woman was tragically killed and her husband and youngest son sustained injuries in an early morning attack on Sunday, September 13, 2026. The incident occurred in Tollen village, located in Manipur’s Tamenglong district, when unidentified gunmen opened indiscriminate fire around 4 a.m.

Police reported that the deceased has been identified as Lhingjangai Singsit, while her husband, Seineh Singsit, and their son are currently receiving treatment for gunshot wounds at a local healthcare centre. The attack has left the community reeling.

Local residents suspect that members of a Naga extremist group may be behind this violent act.

This attack comes just two weeks after a separate incident in the adjoining Kangpokpi district, where four Naga and three Kuki civilians were killed by armed assailants. So far, no group has claimed responsibility for this latest tragedy in Tollen village.

The timing of the attack adds another layer of sorrow and significance, as September 13 is observed by the Kuki community as Sahnit Ni, or Kuki Black Day. This day is a solemn remembrance for the victims of the devastating Kuki-Naga conflict that unfolded in the early 1990s, a period that claimed over 1,000 lives.
