India's EV Sales Hit 24.5 Lakh in FY26, Cars Jump 84%
India crosses 24.5 lakh EV sales in FY26, led by two- and three-wheelers; cars rise 84% as the nation accelerates its green mobility transition.
NEW DELHI: India’s electric vehicle sales crossed a record 24.5 lakh units in FY26, signaling a major shift in the greens mobility drive. FADA data show total EV retail across two-wheelers, three-wheelers, passenger vehicles, and commercial vehicles stood at about 24.52 lakh units, up around 25% year-on-year. Two-wheelers led the charge with 14 lakh units, while three-wheelers reached 8.3 lakh; these figures rose from 11.5 lakh and 7 lakh in FY25 respectively. In passenger cars, volumes grew 84% as new models and price cuts drew more buyers into electric mobility.
A total of 14 lakh electric two-wheelers were sold in FY26, up from 11.5 lakh in FY25; three-wheelers sold 8.3 lakh, up 19% from 7 lakh. Commercial EVs posted 19,454 units, a 121% rise from 8,820 in FY25. 'FY26 has been a watershed year for India's electric mobility,' said the FADA president C S Vigneshwar, noting that the total EV retail across all categories stood at about 24.52 lakh units with double-digit growth across the board.
In cars, manufacturers pressed ahead with models and a push to expand charging infrastructure, helping to fuel the spike in green sedan and hatchback sales. The strong performance across two-, three-, and passenger vehicles suggests the market has reached a mass-market phase rather than a niche transition.
Experts say the momentum reflects government and industry alignment to build out charging networks and affordable options, potentially reshaping transportation from last-mile auto-rickshaws to family cars. It’s a moment many see as proof that India's EV journey is on a sustained growth path.
