India has strongly criticized Pakistan's recent announcement of a Rs 75-lakh bounty for information leading to the arrest of Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) chief Masood Azhar, labeling it a mere "gimmick." The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) in India stated that such moves are nothing more than "phoney announcements" and urged Pakistan to take credible and verifiable action against sanctioned terrorists operating from its territory.
Masood Azhar is a notorious figure, widely regarded as one of India's most wanted terrorists.
He is the mastermind behind several horrific terror attacks that have deeply impacted India.
These include the audacious 2001 Parliament strike, the devastating 2008 Mumbai attacks, the 2016 Pathankot airbase assault, and the tragic 2019 Pulwama bombing, which claimed the lives of many Indian security personnel.
Indian officials highlight that Pakistan has a long history of making superficial gestures regarding counter-terrorism while failing to take decisive action against terror groups and their leaders on its soil. This latest bounty announcement is seen by India as another attempt by Pakistan to deflect international pressure, particularly from bodies like the Financial Action Task Force (FATF), which monitors global money laundering and terror financing.
Instead of such "yearly acts," India believes Pakistan should demonstrate genuine commitment to combating terrorism by dismantling terror infrastructure and prosecuting known terrorists.
