Prime Minister Narendra Modi recently underscored India's burgeoning indigenous industrial and maritime capabilities at a significant event in Kolkata, West Bengal. During the tri-commissioning ceremony for INS Dunagiri, INS Sanshodhak, and INS Agray into the Indian Navy, PM Modi highlighted the nation's rapid progress in naval self-reliance. This move marks a crucial stride in bolstering India's defense and economic prowess.
The Prime Minister revealed that over 40 Made-in-India warships and submarines have joined the Navy in recent years, with an additional 45 large naval platforms currently under construction. He emphasized that this is not merely a statistic but a powerful testament to India's growing industrial capacity and its future as a global player. He stated that India aspires to be a "Nirmata" (creator) and, subsequently, a "Nirnayak" (decisive force) in the maritime sector.
PM Modi passionately described the maritime sector as the "employment engine of a developed India." He articulated how the construction of modern ships, which requires vast quantities of steel, electronics, machinery, and thousands of components, involves numerous companies and, consequently, creates millions of new jobs for young people. Over 200 MSMEs contributed to the construction of these three newly commissioned ships, showcasing the widespread economic impact.
The three indigenously built naval ships – INS Dunagiri, INS Sanshodhak, and INS Agray – boast over 75% indigenous content. They are set to significantly enhance India's naval capabilities in combat, surveying, and anti-submarine warfare, reinforcing the nation's growing influence on the global maritime stage. The event was attended by notable dignitaries, including West Bengal Governor R.N. Ravi, Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari, and Indian Navy Chief Admiral Krishna Swaminathan. PM Modi stressed the intrinsic link between development, security, and prosperity with the country's maritime sector, signaling a new phase for India as a maritime power.
