India Advises Citizens to Leave Iran as Protests Surge in Tehran
Amid fresh anti-government protests and rising regional tension, India's Tehran embassy urges citizens to depart Iran by available transport, citing safety concerns and ongoing demonstrations.
An advisory from the Indian Embassy in Tehran asked Indian nationals—students, pilgrims, business travelers and tourists—currently in Iran to leave the country using the next available transport, including commercial flights. It urged travelers to keep travel and immigration documents such as passports and IDs ready and to contact the Embassy for assistance. The note follows earlier warnings from the Ministry of External Affairs and India’s Tehran mission issued in January, after protests began to intensify nationwide.
Fresh anti-government protests have erupted across Iran, with students staging demonstrations at several universities and clashes reported in multiple campuses. Officials have warned of a strong security response as tensions rise, while regional observers note a worrying backdrop of U.S. military posture and ongoing talks aimed at a nuclear deal.
