In a major security lapse, six police personnel in Bengaluru have been suspended following the discovery of explosive materials on a route intended for Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s convoy. The incident took place on May 10, during the Prime Minister's visit to the city, sparking immediate concern over high-level security protocols.
The suspended officers include a sub-inspector, an assistant sub-inspector, and four constables who were all assigned to bandobast duty for the event. The suspension orders were issued by Srinivas Gowda, the Superintendent of Police for Bengaluru South, citing dereliction of duty and a significant lack of alertness during such a critical assignment.
Reports indicate that an explosive-filled box was spotted near Vaderahalli Gate in Bengaluru South taluk, a location close to the route leading to the Art of Living Foundation Ashram. The Prime Minister was scheduled to visit the ashram for a planned program. Fortunately, a constable noticed the suspicious box around 9 a.m., roughly two hours before the Prime Minister’s convoy was due to arrive.
The discovery prompted an immediate response from the bomb disposal squad, who confirmed that the box contained explosive materials. After the explosives were safely secured, security agencies performed a rigorous sweep of the entire route to ensure safety before the convoy was allowed to proceed. While the immediate threat was neutralized, investigators are still working to determine how the explosives were placed along such a high-security route.
