Typhoon Dolphin Unleashes Fury on China! 1 Million Evacuated

Typhoon Dolphin has made a powerful landfall in Eastern China, prompting a massive evacuation of over one million residents and bringing widespread disruption to major cities including Shanghai. Authorities are urging caution as the storm unleashes strong winds, torrential rain, and significant flooding across the region.

The severe weather has led to the closure of several prominent tourist attractions, with parts of Shanghai Disneyland, Legoland, and popular viewing platforms along the Bund temporarily shut down. Footage circulating on state media shows ground-floor businesses in Shanghai's historic former French Concession, a popular tourist spot, already inundated with ankle-deep floodwaters. A worrying report from Wenling, Zhejiang province, confirms a nine-year-old boy is missing after being swept into the sea, though officials have not yet reported any other casualties.

Forecasts indicate that parts of Zhejiang could face an astonishing 250mm to 500mm of rain in the coming days. In response, Hangzhou, Zhejiang's capital, has waived parking fees in public spaces to allow drivers shelter from the extreme conditions. Neighboring cities are also taking drastic measures: Wenzhou has relocated approximately 900,000 residents and opened more than 1,000 emergency shelters, while Taizhou has evacuated around 390,000 people from their homes.

Further along the coast in Fujian province, maritime authorities have suspended dozens of passenger ferry routes and halted over 100 offshore construction projects as a precautionary measure. China's state broadcaster CCTV highlights the unusual nature of Typhoon Dolphin, noting its extensive 6,000km journey before landfall—a lifespan more than three times that of an average typhoon—along with its massive circulation size and intense rainfall capacity. In Shanghai alone, over 1,400 flights have been cancelled as the city braces for the full force of the storm. Residents are advised to avoid outdoor activities and remain vigilant as the typhoon continues its destructive path.
