Sanjay Raut (UBT) claimed that many of the new corporators, originally from the undivided Shiv Sena, do not want a BJP mayor and suggested even Shinde prefers to keep that option off the table.
Shinde's camp says the move is about learning and cohesion; Sheetal Mhatre said 20 of the 29 are first-time winners who need to know how the BMC operates, and she rejected charges of hotel politics or coercion.
Meanwhile, The Times of India reports ongoing power-sharing discussions with the BJP, with the mayor's post for the initial 2.5 years and key committee positions in play. The hotel setting has quickly become a flashpoint in Mumbai's political maneuvering as both sides seek leverage in a chamber where the majority thresholds are being tested.
