Yep, it’s happening again. AI in film. It started with technical aspects like animation, art, graphics and whatnot, then went on to writing and now, we have ourselves an AI actress, if you can believe it.

It’s name is Tilly Norwood, created by Eline Van der Velden, a Dutch comedian who is also the owner of Particle 6, a production studio. According to her, it was not created to replace humans… yet it exists to do a job a human would do. That’s interesting.

It is just a program at the end of the day and all it does it imitate and replicate whatever data is fed to it. This includes prominent performances from real humans with real emotions and raises the question whether it should be allowed to do so. That brings copyright issues into play as well.

Can AI Ever Replace Real Talent?

It is said to be able to do what Natalie Portman, Scarlet Johansson and others do with so much heart. But that’s just not possible. Not by a program. No matter what prompt or what data you feed it, that is not happening. Real human performances are drawn from real human experiences with real human pain or joy, something that can never be replicated by a program.

Hollywood’s Response and What’s Next

Moreover, talent agencies in Hollywood are seriously considering signing this AI as the future of acting. This was met with severe criticism from many actors as well as the Screen Actors Guild (SAG). They ensured that they got ahead of the issue and voiced out their opinions to hopefully prevent this from going further.

With the direction Hollywood is taking towards AI in film, it is up to audiences and artists around the world to unite and ensure that art remains exclusive from AI.
