India Powers Up! ⚡️ 300 GW Non-Fossil Capacity Milestone Achieved

India has achieved a significant milestone in its clean energy journey, successfully crossing 300 gigawatts (GW) of installed non-fossil fuel power capacity. This puts the nation firmly on track to meet its ambitious target of 500 GW by 2030, a goal that underscores India's rapid expansion in renewable energy.

Union Minister for New and Renewable Energy, Pralhad Joshi, announced this remarkable achievement, highlighting the speed and scale of the country's efforts. As of July 31, India's non-fossil fuel capacity stood at 300.50 GW, now accounting for more than 54% of its total electricity generation capacity. The first four months of the current financial year alone saw an impressive addition of about 17 GW in renewable energy.

Solar power is leading the charge, contributing a massive 164.59 GW, making it the largest source within India's renewable energy portfolio. This growth is attracting significant global investor interest, despite prevailing economic uncertainties, with several countries expected to partner in upcoming energy summits.

A key initiative driving this progress is the PM Surya Ghar scheme, which promotes rooftop solar installations by offering subsidies to households. This program has already benefited around 19 lakh (1.9 million) individuals, with many enjoying zero electricity bills.

India's commitment and progress in renewable energy are gaining international recognition.

Top officials from the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change and the International Monetary Fund have lauded India's efforts, with some even calling the nation a "solar superpower." This recognition further solidifies India's position as a global leader in the transition to clean, sustainable energy.
