Get ready, Sylvan Esso fans! The innovative North Carolina electropop duo, Amelia Meath and Nick Sanborn, have officially announced their first new album in four years, titled 'Ow ∞'. This highly anticipated release follows their acclaimed 2022 album, 'No Rules Sandy', and promises a fresh, intriguing sound.
The announcement comes with a brand-new single, "Concrete Glen," offering a second taste of what’s to come, after the earlier release of "Hot Slob." The album, pronounced "Ow Infinity," is intriguingly described as "a trust fall into our dystopian present." Fans who have enjoyed the duo’s unique blend of electronic and indie pop are in for a treat.
‘Ow ∞’ was produced by the duo themselves, a four-year labor of love at their Chapel Hill studio. This marks their longest period spent crafting an album, allowing them to meticulously fine-tune each track. Vocalist Amelia Meath shared her fascinating production philosophy: “One of my favourite ways of producing in general is to come up with an idea and then take out a third of it.” This approach, she explains, makes things "interesting and exciting" and encourages listeners to engage creatively by filling the intentional sonic spaces.
The album boasts a rich tapestry of sounds, featuring live guitar, bass, keys, vibraphone, woodwinds, Innato, organ, piano, and various electronic elements. Sylvan Esso also brought in a stellar cast of collaborators, including six drummers and notable figures like Daniel Aged (known for his work with Frank Ocean), BJ Burton (Bon Iver), Glenn Kotche (Wilco), and Jenn Wasner (Wye Oak), among others. This diverse collaboration promises an expansive and dynamic auditory experience.
Following the album’s release, Sylvan Esso will embark on an extensive full-band tour across North America throughout 2026 and 2027.
